When pumping anything other than water, a positive displacement pump (PD) provides an approximate constant flow at fixed speed, despite the changes in pressure. A positive displacement pump forces the movement of fluid by enclosing a fixed volume of fluid and moving/displacing that fluid mechanically through the pumping system. The flow rate through a positive displacement pump is directly proportional to the speed and number of pumping cycles over a time and can be driven by pistons, screws, gears, rollers, diaphragms, or vanes.

Doyle Pump & Engineering will size or design a positive displacement pump set pumping substances such as canola oil, glycerine, liquid sugars, molasses, honey, grout, blood, glue, slurry, waste, wine, or any other fluid or medium. The type of positive displacement pump selected is dependent on the fluid or medium pumped.
